Germania Springs

Rating
5/5

Just outside the bustle of downtown Jacksonville and Jacksonville State University, nestled right between Alabama Highway 21 and Roy Webb Road is a quaint park that is made for a relaxing afternoon picnic. At 36 years of age, this is a park I remember frequenting often as a child and continue to bring my family to as an adult. It is a nostalgic favorite of mine and my family from Georgia often travel in for an afternoon visit and playdate with the children.

A creek runs through Germania Springs making it the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day. There is rarely a time you will not see a group of kids splashing around and having fun. Bring your picnic lunch or something to throw on the grill and relax in your hammock while your kids play in the creek or on the playground. While you must bring your own hammock there are poles that you can secure your lounger to.

Germania Springs has pavilions and picnic tables that are on a first come first serve basis, making it an ideal spot for a small outdoor birthday party or a family reunion. Restrooms are on site and well maintained. There is a dog park within the park which means you can bring even the four-legged members of your family.

The youth baseball fields and practice fields within Germania Springs are kept busy during the spring and summer. Another leisure sport option is cycling. Germania Springs is an easy access point to bring your bike and head down the Chief Ladiga Trail. Take it South toward Anniston or North to Piedmont and enjoy all the wildlife and beautiful scenery along the route.

All in all this park has something everyone will enjoy. It’s small and quiet but spacious and inviting. The next time you are looking for a peaceful afternoon stop to enjoy nature and sunshine make Germania Springs part of your plans.
