CITY OF PIEDMONT AND PIEDMONT ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE RING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH 2ND ANNUAL SQUIRREL DROP Piedmont residents and the community can join in the festivities downtown thanks to local vendors and sponsors for their support. 

PIEDMONT, AL – The Piedmont Arts & Entertainment Committee is hosting the 2nd Annual Squirrel Drop this New Year’s Eve in downtown Piedmont on December 31st from 10 PM to midnight! Featured last year in ‘The Bama Buzz’ and this year in ‘Best Things Alabama,’ the Squirrel Drop is a family-friendly event to highlight one of the more electrifying aspects of living in Piedmont. 

It’s commonplace in Piedmont that when the power goes out somewhere it town it’s usually from a hungry squirrel with an unfortunate appetite for power lines. To honor our City workers for their tireless work in keeping our lights on in spite of the local squirrels, our Committee developed the Squirrel Drop to salute their hard work! This year, we’re featuring the City of Piedmont Fire Department, in honor of Chief Mike Ledbetter’s retirement. 

With cocoa and cider donated courtesy of Elevated Grounds and Dugger Mountain Fudge & Coffee Company, donation by TriGreen Equipment (Piedmont, AL), and original song written by Piedmont musician Jeff Rogers, join us as we ‘drop‘ Sparky the Squirrel to kick off 2023! 

Official 2nd Annual Squirrel Drop t-shirts are available for purchase for $15, with all of them being Gildan brand Mens sizes S – 3XL. We accept cash or checks written to the Piedmont Arts & Entertainment Committee.
