Whether it be a date night without the kids or a much-needed gathering with a few friends, everybody needs a day out to kick back and unwind. Luckily for Calhoun County residents, fun activities and beautiful scenery is never in short supply.

One of the best ways to burn some calories and enjoy the summer temperatures is to take advantage of the many walking trails located throughout the county. One of the most well-known trails around is the Chief Ladiga Trail that winds through most of the county including Jacksonville, Weaver,  Piedmont and Anniston. The best thing about this trail is the amount of shade the beautiful trees provide. Take advantage of the warm summer afternoons and take a nice walk or bike ride, it’ll  make for a nice afternoon out.

If you’re looking for a more high-energy activity to partake in, the Oxford Exchange is the place to  go. This shopping center is located in the heart of Oxford and offers endless stores such as Target, Best Buy, and Dicks with a number of great dining locations like Olive Garden, Firehouse Subs, and The Gridiron.

Finding a place to stimulate your mind around the county is pretty easy too. Travel down to Anniston’s Museum of Natural History. This location is complete with two museums–Anniston Museum of Natural History and The Berman Museum–along with beautiful botanical gardens. This local location is perfect for learning something new, while also being a destination to see beautiful plants blooming outside.

Each of these locations offer something for everyone who makes the trip. Take advantage of a seemingly lazy Saturday afternoon without the kids and make the trek to one of these hot spots and enjoy the day alone or with others.
