The Alabama Cycling Classic returns on July 3-4th for a race weekend combining the longstanding and historic Sunny King Criterium paired with the Piedmont Criterium for two full days of criterium racing.  The Sunny King Criterium offers twenty categorized sanctioned racing events for Amateur Male/Female, Junior, Master’s Elite and Domestic Professional racers as well as non-competitive youth races for ages 12 and younger. Day two in Piedmont offers a modified shorter schedule of criterium events in the downtown district of Piedmont.

This marks the 19th year that the City of Anniston will proudly host the weekend of events.  The Sunny King Criterium is fifth on the Professional Road Tour (PRT) circuit, managed by USA Cycling.  The PRT calendar is followed by the Top Domestic Professional Road Racing teams in the USA.  Regionally the Sunny King Criterium is one of the most coveted events to win by top professionals and amateurs in the Southeast Region.

“The King organization is so proud to be a part of the Sunny King Criterium/Noble Street Festival since its beginning 19 years ago. What started as a local fundraiser has now become a huge community partnership making Anniston and North Alabama the pinnacle for biking in our State,” said Patty King, chairman of the board of Sunny King Automotive Group. “Relay for Life and other charities continue to benefit. The economic impact is significant. The Sunny King Criterium/Noble Street Festival showcase our incredible natural beauty, as well as the generosity and determination of our amazing community. What can be more rewarding than that? And one more thing, it is a fun-filled day the entire family can enjoy together.”

Annually the Sunny King Criterium and Noble Street Festival raise funds for two local charitable partners; Relay for Life of Calhoun County and Meals on Wheels.  Both local organizations provide volunteer and community support for the event weekend.  A portion of each racer registration goes towards the donations needed for our charitable partners.

The Sunny King Criterium is held in conjunction with the Noble Street Festival, bringing food, live music and activities for the entire family to enjoy.  Admission to the festival and bicycle races is free for all spectators.  Come out and enjoy being with family and friends this upcoming Fourth of July weekend in Anniston!
