Tyler Ward says he’s had a natural love for music his whole life starting before he was born. “My grandmother was playing organ and my mother was playing piano in church the very Sunday that my mother went into labor. So I spent my time in the womb sitting on a piano bench every Sunday.”

Ward, born and raised in Anniston, took after his mom at an early age. “As a small child my mother would pull me up next to the piano, and I played piano to keep me busy while she did things like clean house and stuff like that. She noticed then that it would keep me entertained for hours.”

By three or four years old Ward was playing his brother’s drum kit, and at twelve he picked up bass guitar. He played trumpet in the band during his time at Saks High School.

Ward has been a member of several local bands over his career. “During my stint as a bass player, I got to share stages with countless stars such as Brantley Gilbert, Aaron Tippin’, Darryl Worley, Blackberry Smoke, and Jeff Bates to name a few.” But after a while, Ward says he became discontent. He wanted more.

These days you’ll catch Ward with an acoustic guitar in his hands, an instrument that didn’t come so easily to him. “The rhythm section, bass and drums, just kind of came natural, but I really had to work at guitar,” he admits. “And that’s why I’ve got more pride with that instrument; because I put more work into it.”

“I’ve been doing the solo acoustic thing now for about two years, and I’m currently playing five shows a week,” Ward continues. “I perform weekly on Wednesday nights at the Gridiron and Thursday nights at Shell’s Downtown in Piedmont as well as other venues from Birmingham to west Georgia and from Nashville to Panama City Beach.”

Ward says he will be releasing his first single and music video in the fall, and he’s the newest member of the praise and worship team at Cornerstone Church in Anniston.
